RIAA Halts Distribution Of METALLICA/JAY-Z Mix
March 8, 2004MTV.com reports: A DJ inspired by DANGER MOUSE's 'The Grey Album', a mix of JAY-Z's 'The Black Album' and THE BEATLES' 'The White Album', has been hit with a cease-and-desist order for his own blend of the JAY-Z disc with METALLICA's 'The Black Album'. The legal papers sent to DJ CHEAP COLOGNE came not from METALLICA, but from the RIAA, which ordered the DJ to stop distributing and selling what he was calling 'The Double Black Album'. 'It started out as a joke when I made one song,' Cheap Cologne said, 'but like a lot of jokes I guess it went too far.' "
